Abstract

Electrical energy can be interpreted as the main energy needed by the community to meet the needs in various sectors of activity, both in the industrial sector, public facilities and infrastructure, lighting, households, and so on. However, power plants in Indonesia still depend on non-renewable energy sources which will over time experience limited resources and will result in an energy crisis. On the other hand, several areas in Indonesia have not been able to enjoy electricity, especially in rural areas, especially we often encounter rural road lighting facilities that are minimal or even without street lighting at all. One of the potential renewable alternative energy sources is water, there are still much water flows with high discharge such as rivers, streams, irrigation flows that are still not utilized properly. PLTMh or also called Micro-hydro Power Plants can be a solution to several problems, with easy construction and low manufacturing costs, it is imperative. The use of a vortex turbine by utilizing the kinetic force of the whirlpool turns into a permanent magnet synchronous generator driving power to generate electricity and then stored in batteries or accumulators that can be used for street lighting. From the test data, it is found that the time required to charge the 12Vdc, 7.5Ah battery on average every 5 minutes, namely there is an increase in voltage of 0.074 Vdc, while charging the battery from empty to full it takes 14 hours and 30 seconds. With 12v/15W lamp load. current 0.33 A and light sensor with current 0.02 A full battery voltage 12.9 Vdc then the battery can be used for 21 hours 24 minutes. From the results of this study, we can use it as a street lighting lamp.
