Abstract

The aims of this research are to describe the referents of swear words in 2 Fast 2 Furious movie and the function of swear words. In analysing, the writer used qualitative as the type of the research. The data source was the movie script and the researcher used document in collecting data. This research has two findings. The first finding is that the swear words said by Brian O’Connor and Roman Pierce have a referents as scatological theme, sex organ theme, religious theme, animal theme, death theme, sex activity, family theme and disease theme. The second finding is that the swear words have a functions to show anger, to show friendliness, annoyance, to show happiness, solidarity, insult and to show aggression. From the second finding, it can be conclude that swear words still has a function to express the speaker anger rather than to express happiness or solidarity.
