Abstract

Instagram Stories are one of the main features of Instagram (a social media) which is designed to provide users with easy way for sharing stories. The users of this feature come from different backgrounds and ages one of them is teenagers, who are at the stage of building identity and self-image to the general public (Sakti & Yulianto, 2013). This study aims to investigate the use of Instagram Stories by students of SMP N 1 Sidoharjo in relation to Self-Disclosure theory. The population of this study was students of SMP N 1 Sidoharjo, Wonogiri. Explanatory quantitative method was used in this study. Random sampling technique was employed and 100 students were taken as the sample using Slovin’s formula. For the data collection technique, questionnaire was used. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis on Instagram Stories (X variable) and self-disclosure (Y variable). From the analysis results, it can be concluded that the use of Instagram Stories has a significant effect on self-disclosure, with a t count score of 7.147, t table score of 1.987, sig 0.000 and R-Squared value of 34.3%.
