Abstract

Kepok banana peel is an adsorbent that can be used to adsorb solutions containing methylene orange dye. The use of kepok banana peels is converted into activated charcoal with HCl as an activator. The HCl concentration used was 0.15; 0.2; and 0.25 M. The method used in this research is adsorption, with a solution of 6 ppm of methylene orange as much as 25 mL. The steps were proceed in three variations that are adsorbent mass, adsorption time, and pH. The first variation was performed to determine the optimum adsorbent mass using variation of 0.5; 1; 1.5; 2; 2.5; ; 3.5; 4; 4.5 and 5 grams. Then, the time variation were 5. 10. 15. 20. 30. 60. 80. 100. and 120 minutes. And The pH variations were 1. 3. 5. 7. 9. 11. 13. After the adsorption process was performed for each variation, the absorbance value was check in the adsorption solution using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. By obtaining the absorbance value, we could find out the absorption of kepok banana peels the adsorbent in the methylene orange solution. The optimum condition for adsorbent mass are 5 grams for is 120 minutes with a pH of 1 and the activator concentration of 0,15 M.
