Abstract

This research analyzes how the principal's strategic management in strategic formulation, strategic implementation, and evaluation or control in improving teacher competence, so that the competence of teachers (especially pedagogic competence and professional competence) can develop for the better. The purpose of this study was to find and determine the principal's strategic management in improving teacher competence and characteristics in SD Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga. This study used qualitative methods using interactive data analysis techniques. The result of this research is the model applying in strategic management at SD Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga and the model developed by Wheelen and Hunger. Strategic planning in order to increase teacher competence, namely 3G OTA 1) good communication (komunikasi yang baik), 2) good habit (kebiasaan yang baik), 3) good moral (kepribadian baik), 4) openness (terbuka), 5) training (pelatihan). ), 6) activities (kegiatan-kegiatan). Programs to improve teacher pedagogic competence include 1) cadre recruitment strategies and mentoring of new teachers, 2) peer tutors, 3) comparative study in the excellent schools in the context for learning the concept. Programs to improve the professional competence of teachers are: 1) workshops and training, 2) further studies, 3) making teachers as PJs for certain subjects. The characteristics of strategic management are the optimization of human resources, frequency equations, the Muhammadiyah philosophy of "always wanting to be at the forefront of innovation and with progressive principles" as school branding, budget management strategies, postgraduate further studies, and the philosophy of ISIN (sincere, silaturahim, istiqomah, and nidzom).
