Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze and describe students' critical thinking skills in solving PISA-oriented Number Patterns story problems. This type uses qualitative methods, namely methods whose design uses a quantitative approach to determine students' critical abilities with predetermined indicators, the population in this study were all students of class VIII and those made into class VIII G SMP Negeri 1 Mojogedang with a total of 31 students consisting of 12 male students and 19 female students. The sampling technique used was the data collection technique, the test method, and documentation interviews. Based on the results of the analysis in the study, the following conclusions were obtained: 1) low-level students' critical thinking skills in solving story questions are unable to provide simple explanations, students are able to provide basic explanations correctly but incompletely, students are able to set strategies and tactics but are wrong, students are unable to provide further explanations and conclusions. 2) The ability to think critically of middle-level students in solving story problems, namely being able to provide simple precise but incomplete explanations, being able to provide basic skills accurately and completely, being able to provide strategies and tactics appropriately but incomplete, being able to provide further explanations and conclusions appropriately but not complete. 3) High-level students' critical thinking skills in solving story problems, namely being able to provide simple and accurate explanations, being able to provide basic skills accurately and completely, being able to set strategies and tactics appropriately and completely, being able to provide further explanations and conclusions appropriately and complete.
