Abstract

Infectious diseases are still a problem in Indonesian society. E. coli bacteria are normal microbiota of the human gut and will cause disease if they are in excess. Diarrhea disease is a disease that has the potential to cause extraordinary events and can cause death in Indonesia. In 2017, there were 1,725 diarrhea sufferers with 34 deaths (CFR 1.97%), 70-80% of whom were under five. The use of herbal plants as traditional medicine has been done by the Indonesian people for a long time. Plants that can be used as traditional medicines include Pandan Wangi (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.) and basil (Ocimum basilicum L.). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using a combination of Pandan Wangi Leaf extract and Basil Leaf extract on the growth of E. coli ATCC 25922 bacteria. This type of research was experimental. Inhibition test method using solid diffusion with paper disc. The combination concentrations of the two extracts used were 5%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% with control positive chloramphenicol and control negative DMSO. The repetition is done three times. Data analysis using One way ANOVA. The results showed that the inhibitory power was formed starting with a 50% concentration of 8.33 ± 0.58 mm, a 75% concentration of 10.83 ± 1.76 mm and a 100% concentration of 12.33 ± 1.16 mm. The conclusion of this study is that there is no significant difference in the use of a combination of Pandanus Leaf extract and Basil Leaf extract on the growth of E. coli ATCC 25922 (Sig 0.022> 0.01), but it still has the potential to be antibacterial because it produces small inhibition.
