Abstract

Water is the most important element for living things because living things are very dependent on water to carry out their lives. One of the efforts to meet water needs is to build weirs to raise the water level so that water can be channeled to places that need water. As a result of damming, there will be a change in flow from subcritical to supercritical which results in a hydraulic jump. The width of the weir threshold will affect the length of the hydraulic jump. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the width of the threshold on a wide-threshold type weir on the length of the water jump. The research was conducted at the Hydraulics Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. This study uses an open flume measuring 30 cm x 60 cm x 1000 cm, the slope of the channel bottom is 0.0058. This study uses a wide threshold weir model with 5 types of wide threshold size variations, namely those with dimensions of 4cm x 30cm x 30cm (P.1), 4.8cm x 30cm x 30cm (P2), 5.6cm x 30cm x 30cm (P3). , 6.4cm x 30cm x 30cm (P.4) and 7.2cm x 30cm x 30cm (P.5). Running 5 times on each model with a predetermined discharge variation. Then the water depth was measured upstream of the weir, at the top of the weir, and downstream of the weir. The results of the study show the conclusions, namely: The smaller the width of the threshold in the wide-threshold type weir, the shorter the length of the water jump.
