Abstract

Advanced cancer causes various problems, including physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects that affect the patient's quality of life. Therefore, care support that covers all aspects is needed. This support is called palliative care. This study aims to describe the knowledge and attitudes of nurses about palliative care in cancer patients. This research is a quantitative descriptive study. The population in the study was 63 nurses, the data was taken from HIMPONI (Indonesian Ongkologi Nurses Association) DPW Central Java. The sampling technique used was total sampling. Data collection used a questionnaire, to measure the knowledge data of nurses using the PCQN (Palliative Care Quiz for Nursing) questionnaire and to measure attitudes using the FATCOD questionnaire (The Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying Scale). The results of the study are presented in a frequency distribution table which shows nurses have good knowledge as many as 5 people (7.9%), nurses have sufficient knowledge as many as 46 people (73%) and nurses have insufficient knowledge as many as 12 people (19%) and nurses have attitudes. both 6 people (9.5%), nurses had moderate attitudes 49 people (77.8%), nurses had bad attitudes 8 people (12.7%). The conclusion of this study regarding the knowledge of nurses about palliative care shows that dominant nurses have sufficient knowledge compared to nurses who have good and less knowledge. The overall results of the research on nurses' attitudes about palliative care showed that dominant nurses had moderate attitudes compared to good and bad attitudes.
