Abstract

This study aims to describe: 1). Characteristics of the application of the principal's interpersonal communication in an effort to realize a progressive school, 2). Characteristics of the principal's interpersonal communication efforts in realizing a progressive school, 3). Supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of interpersonal communication This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, with data sources from school principals and teachers at SD Muhammadiyah Sragen. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation. Analytical techniques include data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. For the validity of the data using triangulation. The results of the study include: 1) five characteristics of the principal's interpersonal communication, namely communicating gently, using appropriate diction, greeting, fast response in communicating via social media, being a good listener 2) the characteristics of the principal's interpersonal communication efforts include three things , namely sympathizing and empathizing, understanding the personality of the interlocutor and upgrading oneself 3) Supporting factors include existing communication tools and media, a sense of kinship, equal age for principals and teachers, already aware of the main duties of their respective functions and good responses. The inhibiting factor is the busyness of the principal, both official and foundation agendas, including the principal's personal interests. Keywords: Interpersonal Communication, Principal
