Abstract

Gas leaks are a big problem and become a danger in case of gas fires. The case of gas leakage continues to increase every year along with the issuance of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No: 1971/26 / MEM / 2007 which contains government programs in the conversion of petroleum fuel to natural gas (LPG) to switch from limited fossil energy to energy that is still overflowing. Natural gas or LPG has many advantages such as being more efficient and more efficient when compared to petroleum fuels, however, LPG gas is flammable in the air because it contains several gases that are flammable if ignited by fire. Gas leaks can indeed be detected by the human sense of smell, but if the gas leak has seeped into waterways, power lines, and carpets, the gas cannot be smelled by the human senses. Therefore it is necessary to make a gas leak and fire detector that can provide early warning of the danger of a gas explosion. The research method used in the design of this tool is to design a leak detector and LPG gas fire. The steps of this research are system requirements analysis, tool design, tool manufacturing, testing, and analysis. This tool uses the MQ2 sensor to detect gas leaks and the fire sensor to detect gas fires. The reading results of these two sensors are processed by the Arduino Uno microcontroller as a controller. The implementation of this research is to make a tool that can detect and provide early warning of boreholes and gas fires and can extinguish the fire when a fire occurs. Based on the testing of the tool, the results of this gas leak and fire detection system can provide a warning if LPG gas is detected more than 40 PPM and can detect flames less than 1 meter away.
