Abstract

This study was to analyze students' mistakes in solving social arithmetic story questions based on the Newman procedure for grade VII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura. The subjects of this study were students of class VII F. Data collection techniques in this study used tests and interviews. The data analysis technique in this study used interactive data analysis methods. The process of data analysis using interactive data analysis methods, namely data reduction, data presentation or verification, conclusions. The results of this study are, in question number 1 High Category Students and Medium Category Students did not experience difficulties and errors in solving the problems on the questions. Low Category students made mistakes in understanding the problem (comprehension Errors). In question number 2, High Category students are able to solve question number 2 correctly and sequentially. Students in the category are doing transformation errors. Meanwhile, Low Category Students made comprehension errors, as well as process skills errors.
