Abstract

PLTU Tanjung Jati B is a power plant with coal as fuel which is used to turn water into steam by burning the coal. In the process, sea water goes through various stages and also processes before it can be used for the generation process. Apart from being used for steam production, sea water is also used for the cooling process rather than turbines, because the turbine rotates at high rpm for 24 hours, causing heat. Seawater is used as coolant by flowing through the walls rather than turbines. This water is then cooled before returning to the sea through the canals. The flow of these channels is sufficient to be used as a micro hydro power plant using a turbine connected to a generator. Most of the cooling water in the PLTU is used to condense the steam coming out of the turbine. The cooling water is taken from the sea and then flowed back into the sea through a water cooler canal after use. The absence of cooling water in the water cooler canal led to the idea of using it as an energy source for MHP (Micro Hydro Power Plant). The purpose of this study was to determine the best design of the MHP system using Matlab Simulink modeling software. The results obtained from this modeling can generate 16 kilowatts of power and the reactive power is 200VAR, with a three-phase voltage 380 volts.
