Abstract

East Kalimantan is a province in Indonesia with various natural resources contained therein. But with this potential, it turns out that economic growth is not in line well, even in certain years it shows a minus figure. The factor affecting this problem is the instability of global prices, especially the coal mining sector which will have an impact on other sectors. Because seen from the geological condition, most of East Kalimantan Province contains mineral minerals. This research aims: 1) What is the trend of regional economic growth in each district / city? 2) What are the leading sectors in the economy of the East Kalimantan region? 3) How is the imbalance that occurs in an area in the province of East Kalimantan? This research method uses secondary data analysis. The secondary data were analyzed using economic growth, Klassen Typology, Location Quotient (LQ), and Williamson Index. From these results indicate that an upward trend in economic growth occurred in Bontang City. The trend of stable (fluctuating) economic growth occurred in Samarinda City, Balikpapan City, and Mahakam Ulu Regency. The downward trend in growth occurred in Penajam Paser Utara District. In addition, there is also a change in the trend of economic growth from the beginning of a decline to then an increase. This happened in West Kutai Regency, Paser Regency, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, Berau Regency, and East Kutai Regency. There are several leading sectors in each district / city, namely the City of Balikpapan with the leading sectors in the manufacturing, construction, transportation, accommodation, communications, financial services and real estate industries. Berau Regency with its leading sectors in mining, trade, transportation, real estate and health services. Bontang City with its leading sectors of transportation, real estate and corporate services. West Kutai Regency with its leading sectors in mining, construction, trade, government administration and health services. East Kutai Regency with the leading mining sector. Kutai Kartanegara Regency with its leading agricultural sector. Mahakam Ulu Regency with its leading transportation sector. Paser Regency with the leading mining sector. Penajam Paser Utara Regency with its leading sectors, construction, and government administration. Samarinda City with its leading sectors of electricity supply, water supply, accommodation, financial services, real estate and other services. In the performance of economic development in 2011-2019, East Kalimantan province still has imbalances between regions. Even though the IW value has decreased every year to 0.48, on average it shows the IW value is still 0.54 which means it is still said to be high inequality. This occurs because development is centered on areas that have been developed and each region has a different resource content, such as Samarinda City, Bontang City, and East Kutai Regency.
