Abstract

Changes in times and technology are growing rapidly and are accompanied by many problems related to human character, it is necessary to strengthen education for character, because good character is the capital for humans to become a nation capable of creating a safe and prosperous life. Education at Muhammadiyah pays great attention to character since its inception through Al Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan Education, which is to instill Islam and Muhammadiyah ideology in order to make students who are smart, have noble character and apply Islamic values to everyday life. The research took place at Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta Elementary School and Muhammadiyah 16 Surakarta Elementary School.This research is a qualitative descriptive field research. Collection data methods used include interview methods with research as well as results from interviews and field observations. The research was conducted with a philosophical, phenomenological, and psychological approach. Furthermore, the analysis method is carried out descriptively using the inductive method.Research shows that character is important in the implementation of Al Islam and Muhammadiyah education. The ideal character desired in Al Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan learning activities is religious character, love of knowledge, able to work together, and care. In the two schools studied, many showed the following: (1) learning Al Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan with character values in it, (2) Character values that have been integrated in learning and supporting programs, (3) The similarity of objectives between teaching character education and learning Al Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan at two Muhammadiyah schools in the city of Surakarta with the aim of Al Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan Education in general, (4) Monitoring on every Al Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan activity, (5) , structuring, management, development, structuring and organizing in managing problems into changes for the better in their implementation. Based on the findings in the field and a review of existing documents, the researcher can conclude that the implementation of Al Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan education in shaping character has run naturally, because the education system in Muhammadiyah already exists and is already at the implementation stage, long before character education is required. by the government.
