Abstract

The cooling medium used affects the rate of cooling in the formation of the martensite structure resulting from the austenite transformation. This martensite will determine to what extent the mechanical properties of heat treatment are increased. This study aims to analyze the microstructure of low carbon steels with water and oil cooling medium 10-40w and to analyze the amount of low carbon steel specimens after carburizing with water cooling media and sae 10-40 w oil. The results of the research for the carburizing material with water-cooling media were also carried out 3 times of tank testing and the maximum tension results were 603.92 MPa, 492.47 MPa, 655.1 MPa respectively with strain values of 29.8%, 28.2%, and 23.9% respectively. and Padaraw material obtained a maximum stress value of 758.67 MPa with a strain value of 9.9% while for 10w-40 oil cooling material was carried out 3 times and the results showed that the average stress and strain were measured.In raw specimens, the average stress was 75S. 67 MPa and the average strain is 9.9%, while for the material produced by the carburizing process with oil cooling media 10w-40, the result is an average stress of 485.257 MPa and an average strain of 33.39%. Whereas for the result of the carburizing process with water cooling, the average stress yield is 503.478 MPa and the average strain is 30.96%.
