Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe the structure that builds the novel Lelaki Terindah by Andrei Laksana and the novel Jakarta Love Story by Rudy Efendy. (2) to describe the intellectual relationship of the factors causing the main character's sexual orientation in the two novels. (3) describe the relevance of the research results as teaching materials in Indonesian literature learning in high school. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method. The data in this research are quotations of words, sentences and paragraphs from the novel Lelaki Terindah and Jakarta Love Story. The data sources in this study were the novel Lelaki Terindah by Andrei Aksana and Jakarta Love Story by Rudy Efendy. Data collection techniques in this study were interview techniques, library techniques, listening and note taking. The data validation technique used theory triangulation and method triangulation. The data analysis technique used was the heuristic and hermeneutic reading technique. The results of this study include (1) the novel structure that builds the two novels is the theme, character and characterization, plot, and setting. (2) The novel LT is a hipogram and the JLS novel is a transformation text. The intertextual relationship of factors causing sexual orientation in the main character found in LT and JLS novels, namely biological, social and environmental factors, family, and economy. (3) the novel LT by Andrei Aksana and the novel JLS by Rudy Efendy are relevant to be used as literature teaching materials in high school. Keywords: Hypogram, Intertextuality, Transformation.
