Abstract

The Solo-Purwodadi road Km 2+000-Km 4+000 is a provincial road constructed under flexible Pavement. This research focuses on the analysis of road damage density due to climatic factors. Climatic factors and traffic volume affect road infrastructure and reduce road quality. Drainage imperfections quicken pavement distresses which causes structural failures. The research is carried out by visual surveys and analysis of damage based on the category and extent of the damage. There are several segments of length equating to 100 m and with a width of 6m with a segment area of 600m2 used for density, deduct value, and Pavement Conditional Index (PCI) acquired from Manual Routine Maintenance, Ministry of Public Works, Jakarta. The drainage quality is from USB and the load vehicles used in this case are from Modul RDE 08: Traffic engineering. There was a lot of distresses on the road including; Alligator crack, Block crack, Corrugation, Depression, longitudinal & Transverse, Potholes, Patching, Raveling/ Weathering, Rutting, Shoving, Edge crack, Shoulder drop off. No proper drainage system was planned in the design and construction of the road. More than 70% of the roadway is in dire need of ditching improvements to avoid flooding. There is an unbearable load on the pavement since among the daily traffic are the heavy trucks carrying goods from solo to other industrial cities. This particular roadway doesn’t have any restrictions on either the nature of the trucks or the weight of the goods to be carried by heavy vehicles on the road. In conclusion, road defects are caused by both poor drainage systems and high vehicular load.
