Abstract

Background: Stroke is a condition that occurs when blood supply leading to the brain is interrupted or reduced due to a blockage which is commonly known as an ischemic stroke, or it can also rupture a blood vessel in the brain which is commonly referred to as a hemorrhagic stroke. Without blood, the brain will not get oxygen and nutrients, so cell in some areas of the brain will die. When some areas of the brain die, the parts of the body controlled by the damaged areas of the brain cannot function properly. There are various methods of handling for stroke cases, one of which is said to be quite effective is the Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) exercise method. Objective: To determine how effective the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation exercise methods is in improving the quality of life of post-stroke patients. Methods: The research design used is a literature review that focuses on evaluating some of the results of previous research related to topic or research variables. The data source used is 9 articles, with a publication time span 2010-2020. The source of the journal being evaluated is the randomized control trial journal and uses PEDro Scale assesment standard to assess the feasibility of a journal. Result and Discussion: Of the 9 articles that have been used as the basis for this study, 8 articles that implemented interventions using the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation training method for a period of more than 3 weeks stated that the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation training method was effective in dealing with symptoms in stroke patient, as well as 1 other article that implements an intervention using the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation training method for less than 3 weeks states that the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation training method is less effective in dealing with symptoms in stroke patient. Conclusion: The proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation training method is considered effective in dealing with symptoms that are found in stroke patients if done it for at least 3 weeks.
