Abstract

Learning to read and write Al-Quran is an important program in Islamic education. As stated in the function of National education, namely to develop abilities and form a dignified character of the nation's civilization in order to educate the nation's life, develop the potential of students to become human beings who believe and fear God Almighty, have noble character, as well as, knowledgeable, competent, creative, independent, and a citizen of a democratic and responsible country. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach, the object of research was extracurricular BTA (Reading and writing the Qur'an). While the subjects of this study were supervisors and extracurricular BTA students. The purpose of this study was to describe the “halaqah” technique in extracurricular activities of BTA class VII at SMP Negeri 01 Gatak and identify inhibiting and supporting factors for the application of these techniques. Data collection methods used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The application of the “halaqah” technique at SMP Negeri 01 Gatak through BTA extracurricular activities begins with the creation of a good learning atmosphere, paying attention to the conditions of students, providing explanations for material, providing clarification, and providing opportunities for students to ask questions related to unclear reading material. This was done by BTA extracurricular supervisors and assisted by peer tutors. There are two inhibiting factors to the implementation of extracurricular BTA, namely internal and external factors.
