Abstract

Background: Low back pain is a very common disease whom affects mostly all people around the world, one of them is low back pain myogenic. According to WHO, around 3 - 17% of sufferers are affected by the disease and the majority are over 40 years of age. McKenzie exercise is an intervention in the form of extension movement exercise for low back pain sufferers that useful for reducing pain and increasing body metabolism. However, there is no recommendation for proper mckenzie exercise based on frequency, intensity, type of exercise, or exercise program for sufferers. Objective: To determine the benefits of mckenzie exercise on reducing pain for sufferers with low back pain myogenic. Methods: This study used the critical review method, with analysis and evaluation based on 7 articles with randomized control trial type between 2010 and 2020. In addition, the measurement instrument for this study used the PEDro Scale as a standard measurement of article eligibility based on 11 criteria. Results and Discussion: The results of the 7 articles showed that, the recommended Mckenzie exercise methods were flexion - extension in standing position, flexion - extension in lying or prone position, and side glide in lying, lateral position for 3 sets, 10x - 15x repetition each day for 30 – 45 minutes during 4 weeks, were able to reduce pain intensity, body functional disorders, improving body posture, and the quality of life for low back myogenic pain sufferers. Conclusion: Mckenzie exercise based from the recommendations given has had provided better benefits for sufferers of low back pain myogenic.
