Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality of infectious diseases in the world, especially in children under five. ARI is one of the environmental-based diseases which is still a problem today, so that the environment is one of the factors that can influence the occurrence of ARI such as the physical condition of the house. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the physical environment of the house and the incidence of ARI in toddlers. This research was conducted by using the literature review method. The literature is in the form of journal publications sourced from electronic databases such as Google scholar, Scopus, PubMed, and Elsevier Science Direct and SINTA. Based on the results of the search, it was found 8 literatures that fit the inclusion criteria, with research methods cross-sectional and case-control, sampling techniques using simple random sampling, random sampling, accidental sampling, purposive sampling, and total sampling. Statistical test used Chi-square (bivariate analysis) and Logistic Regression (multivariate analysis). In the independent variable, all articles describe the physical environmental conditions of the house in detail. The conclusion of this study is that the physical environment of the house and the variables most at risk of causing ARI incidence in children under five based on the bivariate and multivariate analysis in the 8 articles, namely occupancy density (P = 0.001, OR = 21.99), ventilation (P = 0.004, OR = 11.73) (Hidayanti, 2019), humidity (P = 0.013, Exp (B) = 4.707) (Sofia, 2017), house floor (P = 0.018, PR = 3,934) (Fera & Sriwahyuni, 2020), lighting (p = 0.01, PR = 3.35) and roof type (P = 0.02, PR = 3.07) (Mahendrayasa & Farapti, 2018).
