Abstract

Flat is a multi-storey building built in an environment, which is one solution to overcoming a slum settlement. In the city of Surakarta, there is a simple rental apartment located in a slum area. The flat is named Begalon Flats, which is located in Panularan Village, Laweyan, Surakarta. According to the author's survey data, the flat has many deficiencies in the building. The lack of public facilities such as places of worship, gathering rooms (halls), clinics, and cooperatives is the reason why these flats deserve to be redesigned. Apart from the lack of public facilities, the residential units and some of their elements have not met the standards. The redesign concept used is a sustainable architectural approach. A sustainable architectural approach is applied in the design with the aim of creating a platform that ensures the welfare of its residents. The strategy is implemented by utilizing the territory of the activity space based on the economic potential in the surrounding area, developing a platform that can strengthen ties and adjusting the social context of the community by creating social space places and the principle of flexibility in housing, and preserving the environment by implementing integrated waste management and efficient utility. energy. The method used is to collect primary and secondary data in the form of interviews, observations, and literature studies. With this redesign design, it is hoped that the begalon apartment building will become an environmentally friendly building for the future and can also improve the welfare of residents with lower middle income.
