Abstract

The study aimed to: 1) know the correlation of age gap and sibling rivalry on late childhood and 2) to know the category of the sibling rivalry on late childhood. It was descriptive quantitative study. The number of samples were 109 children at the age of late childhood in Kecamatan Ngaringan, Kabupatren Grobogan, Central Java. The sampling used was incidental and purposive sampling. The data were collected by measurement tool of sibling rivalry scale. The data were analyzed using partial correlation test of Pearson Product Moment. The result of the study showed that: 1) the result of hypothesis test showed that there was very negative significant correlation of age gap and sibling rivalry. The farther the age gap, the smaller the sibling rivalry happened. In addition, the closer the age gap, the more sibling rivalry. 2) The effective support of the study showed age gap influenced the sibling rivalry. The age gap had little contribution on sibling rivalry. and the other was influenced by other variable which this study did not investigate such as pattern of care, sequence of position, gender, and number of sibling. 3) The category of sibling rivalry based on empirical mean and hypothetic mean suggested that sibling rivalry on the study was middle. Meanwhile, the age gap variable of the subject studied was medium. Keywords : Age Gap, Sibling Rivalry, Late Childhood
