Abstract

This study aims to determine and describe the content of character values and the integration of local cultural content in the fifth grade student books, the theme of the environment of our friends. This type of research is a content analysis with qualitative methods using a descriptive design. The research data were obtained using documentation techniques. Based on the results of the analysis, of the 18 character values determined by the Ministry of National Education, it was found that 15 character values were found in the fifth grade student books, the theme of the Environment of Our Friends the sub-theme of Environmental Change in learning one to six, namely: (1) religious, (2) tolerance, 3) discipline, (4) hard work, (5) creative, (6) independent, (7) democratic, (8) curiosity, (9) love the country, (10) friendly / communicative, (11) love peaceful, (12) likes reading, (13) cares about the environment, (14) social care, (15) responsibility. This means that there are three character values that have not been found, namely honesty, national spirit, and respect for achievement. Meanwhile, for the integration of local cultural content from the seven contents, only three local cultural contents were found in the first to sixth lessons, namely: (1) religious systems and religious ceremonies, (2) livelihood systems, and (3) arts. The content that has not been found is language, knowledge systems, community systems and organizations, technology systems and equipment.
