Abstract

Hardness testing is used to evaluate the value of the strength characteristics of the alloy wheels imported when the vehicle is subjected to load. Heat treatment is carried out to improve the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of heat treatment artificial aging on alloy wheels imported (Al-Si) with the variation of the cooling medium (water, water, and oil SAE 140) of the value of violence. This study uses aluminum material of alloy wheels imported four-wheeled vehicle made of casting re-using the sand casting method. The temperature of solution heat treatment used 500°C with a detention time of 5 minutes. Quenching with variation of a cooling medium of water wells, water ice,and oil SAE 140. The temperature of artificial aging used 180°C with holding time 4 hours. Cooling is done slowly with the specimen inside the oven to the initial temperature. The chemical composition of the material alloy import there are 2 main elements namely Al-Si. With the percentage of Al (93,18%) and Si (6,47%). The hardness of the raw material before heat treatment to after the process of heat treatment artificial aging increased in the cooling medium water of the well of 50,16 BHN be 55,69 BHN, media of ice water from 50,16 BHN be 60,57 BHN, and the oil medium SAE 140 of 50,16 BHN be 52,61 BHN. The percentage of the highest increase occurred in the cooling medium of ice water 20.75%, the micro structure after the process of artificial aging on the cooling medium of ice water looks size as well as area of granules of silicon (Si) formed a large and regular.
