Abstract

Kalianget Subdistrict is the district with the highest salt producer in Sumenep Districts. The salt products are then traded by the salt farmers to several regions and will create a trade network. The trade network is an interconnected link between producers, traders, distributors, retailers, and consumers. The smallholder salt farmers in Kalianget District are group into a business group known as Kelompok Usaha Garam Rakyat or KUGaR. The research objective was to determine the profile or general description of KUGaR in Kalianget District and its salt trading network. The method used was a survey with a population or sample of the KUGaR leaders in Kalianget District. Obtain data by observing the research location and conducting interviews with KUGaR leaders as well as documents and archives to support the research results. The results of the research are KUGaR in Kalianget District began to exist or was established in 2011, 2020 there were 30 KUGaRs with a total of 337 salt farmers. In 2020, KUGaR in Kalianget District has produced 12,163 tons of people's salt with a total area of 287.82 ha of salt pond land. The majority of KUGaR heads in the Kalianget District are men cum only one woman is the chairperson of KUGaR with an average age of 40-49 years by the education level of the KUGaR heads in Kalianget District being high school and bachelor's degree. The length of effort for the KUGaR chairmen to work on the salt pond business is 11-15 years on the average. The salt trade in Kalianget District has a trading network that involves KUGaR salt farmers and their suppliers. Marketing of people's salt in Kalianget District covers the areas of Sumenep (1,987 tons), Pamekasan (1,380 tons), Surabaya (1,220 tons), Gresik (1,790 tons), Sidoarjo (4,028 tons), and Medan (1,740 tons).
