Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between the intensity of social media use and consumptive behavior in late adolescents and to determine the relationship between group conformity and consumptive behavior in late adolescence. In the study, the intensity of social media use and group conformity are factors that influence late adolescence in consumptive behavior. The subjects in this study were active students at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta aged 18-21 years, according to 125 people. The sampling technique used was a random sampling technique. The method used in this study is quantitative with measuring instruments in the form of a consumptive scale of behavior, a scale of social media use, and a scale of group conformity. Data analysis was performed using Spearman rho non parametric correlation analysis with the help of SSPS for Windows version 2.3. Based on the data analysis between the intensity of social media use and the consumptive behavior variable, the coefficient of meaning value (r) is 0.129 with a significance value (p) of 0.007 (p <0.05). These results indicate a very significant positive relationship between the intensity of social media use and consumptive behavior. Truth is positive truth, which means that the higher a person's social media behavior, the higher his consumptive behavior. Group conformity variables and consumptive behavior variables obtained a value without value (r) of 0.409 with a significance value (p) of 0.000 (p <0.05). These results indicate a significant positive relationship between group conformity and consumptive behavior. The value is free from positive behavior, which means that the higher the conformity of a group, the higher the consumptive behavior.
