Abstract

Today many parties demand an increase in the intensity and quality of the implementation of Islamic character education in formal educational institutions. The demand is based on a growing social phenomenon, namely the increasing delinquency of teenagers in society, such as mass fights and other moral case actions. One of the efforts to build Islamic character is through tahfidz education. Tahfidz education acts as an introduction, habituation, and inculcation of noble character values for students in order to build human beings to believe and fear Allah. One of the positive impacts (wisdom) resulting from memorizing the Qu’an is to help increase concentration in gaining knowledge and shape human character in a better direction. One school that implements tahfidz education that is different from other schools is SMP Ahmad Dahlan Boarding School Sukoharjo. Based on this, the researcher is interested in examining the role of the tahfidz method used in the formation of Islamic character at SMP Ahmad Dahlan Boarding School Sukoharjo. The purpose of this study is to describe the role of the tahfidz method used in the formation of Islamic character at Ahmad Dahlan Boarding School Sukoharjo Middle School. This type of research is field research, which is research whose object is about the symptoms or events that occur in community groups. In carrying out the research the writer uses an inductive approach. Sources of data from this study were obtained from observations and interviews. Data analysis in this study used qualitative data analysis methods, in data analysis while in the field researchers used the Spradley model, namely data analysis techniques adjusted to the stages in the study. The results of this study indicate that the formation of Islamic characters at SMP Ahmad Dahlan Boarding School Sukoharjo is going well. The implementation is by providing material that students must memorize with the muroja'ah method and deposit in improving reading and memorizing al-Qur'an skills. At the same time, in internalizing the character of students with habituation for students to behave honestly related to their memorization, confident when they have to memorize in advance, hardworking by repeating rote until smoothly. This character appears during the learning of the Tahfidz education and outside the learning of the Tahfidz program.
