Abstract

This purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-confidence and anxiety facing the world of work in final year students and to determine the relationship between social support and anxiety facing the world of work in final year students. The hypothesis proposed in this study is that there is a relationship between self-confidence and anxiety facing the world of work in final year students and there is a relationship between social support and anxiety facing the world of work in final year students. The population in this study were students of the Faculty of Psychology, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, class of 2016 who were in the process of working on their thesis with a sample of 90 students. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. This research method uses a quantitative approach with a measure of self-confidence scale, social support scale and anxiety scale facing the world of work. Data analysis used non-parametric Spearman's Rho because the data normality test was not normally distributed. From the results of the analysis of the variable self-confidence with the variable anxiety facing the world of work has a correlation value of -0.651 and sig (1-tailed) 0.000 (p <0.01). These results indicate that there is a very significant negative relationship between self-confidence and anxiety in facing the world of work in final year students. Meanwhile, the results of the analysis of social support variables with the anxiety variable facing the world of work have a correlation value of -0.557 and sig (1-tailed) 0.000 (p <0.01). These results indicate that there is a very significant negative relationship between social support and anxiety in facing the world of work in final year students. The effective contribution of self-confidence was 42.3%, the effective contribution of social support was 31%, so the total effective contribution was 73.7%, while the remaining 26.7% was influenced by other factors. Based on the results of the categorization of the level of self-confidence, social support and anxiety in facing the world of work, students are classified as moderate.
