Abstract

This research was conducted to improve students' learning independence by applying contextual learning methods. This type of research is classroom action research and is conducted in 2 cycles. The subjects of this study were 16 students and teacher of class XII SMA Negeri 1 Kendal as the givers and recipients of the action. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is the quantitative data analysis technique to calculate the learning independence score and the qualitative data analysis techniques, namely reducing data, presenting data, and verifying data. The results of this study indicate an increase in student learning independence in accounting subjects which can be seen in the indicators, namely: 1) Do not depend on others before the action 37.5%, cycle I by 50%, and at the end of the action cycle II becomes equal to 87 , 5%, 2) Have a sense of self-confidence before the action is 18.75%, cycle I is 37.5%, and at the end of the action cycle II becomes 81.25%, 3) Have a sense of responsibility before the action is 25%, cycle I was 31.25%, and at the end of the cycle II action was 87.5%, 4) Doing something on the basis of own initiative before the action 31.25%, cycle I was 62.5%, and at the end of the action cycle II became by 75%, 5) Able to control himself before the action was 12.5%, the first cycle was 43.75%, and at the end of the action cycle II was 81.25%. So it can be concluded that the use of contextual learning methods can increase the learning independence of students in accounting for class XII students at SMA Negeri 1 Kendal.
