Abstract

This research took place in Tugu District, Semarang City, with the object of research being a mangrove forest area in the area. This area was chosen considering that the location has the largest growth center for mangrove forest in the city of Semarang. The objectives of this study were (1) to determine the distribution of changes in mangrove areas in Tugu District, (2) to determine the distribution of mangrove damage levels and (3) to analyze the dominant factors affecting mangrove damage in Tugu District. The methods used in this study are (1) interpretation of Landsat 8 OLI imagery in 2015 and 2020 to determine the distribution of mangrove changes from the overlay process (2) analysis of mangrove damage from the results of the range of NDVI values (vegetation green level index), and (3) To determine the factors that dominate mangrove damage by conducting a visual and descriptive analysis of the results of the interpretation of the level of mangrove damage in Tugu District which was strengthened through limited interviews with local residents. The results of this study found that (1) the distribution of mangrove changes in Tugu District based on the overlay process obtained the dominant distribution area in the category of mangrove change which was 82.14 hectares (2) the distribution of mangrove damage in Tugu District was dominated by the level of mangrove damage light weight with an area of 92.15 hectares, and (3) factors affecting mangrove damage in Tugu District due to natural and non-natural factors. Natural factors are dominated by high abrasion in the area, while non-natural factors themselves or man-made due to the conversion of mangrove land to shrimp ponds.
