Abstract

This study aims to describe and study speech acts in the first and second debates of the 2019 presidential candidate of the Republic of Indonesia. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with content analysis. The data of this research are directive, commissive, expressive, and assertive speech acts in the first and second debates of the presidential candidates in 2019. Sources of data in this study are all speech acts in the presidential debate rounds one and two on YouTube. The findings of this study are illocutionary speech acts in the form of directive speech acts, commissive speech acts, expressive speech acts, and assertive speech acts used in each speech of the two presidential candidates in the first and second debate of the 2019 presidential candidates. The use of this research is to provide language knowledge about the form and strategy of speech acts in the 2019 presidential debate, and can provide a deep understanding of the study of linguistics, namely the forms and strategies of speech acts in Indonesia.
