Abstract

Pneumonia is a major cause of death in children and adults. Antibiotics are the main therapy for treating pneumonia.Irrational useof antibiotics makes treatment less effective. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of antibiotics in pneumonia patients in the inpatient installation of RSUD Ir. Soekarno Sukoharjo in 2017 was compared to the Guidelines and Diagnosis of Pneumonia Management in 2003. This study was conducted non-experimental with a descriptive design and data collection was carried out retrospectively using medical record data from patients. Using a purposive sampling technique, using data from patients diagnosed with pneumonia and receiving antibiotic treatment. using Gyssens flowchart analysis. Of the 56 samples diagnosed with pneumonia, the results of the use of the antibiotic ceftriaxone injection (34.34%), ceftazidim injection (11.11%), cefixime tablets (10.10%), cefpirome injection (10.10%), Levofloxacin injection ( 9.09%), ofloxacin tablets (6.06%), injection meropenem (5.05%), injection metronidazole (5.05%), gentamycin injection (3.03%), cefpinem injection (2.02%) , cefotaxim injection (2.02%), ciprofloxacin tablets (1.01%) and azithromycin tablets. (1.01%). Assessment of the quality of antibiotic use obtained 4 samples (7.4% included in category 0 (rational antibiotic use) 33 samples (59.02%), included in the IVA category (irrational there is a more effective antibiotic) 16 samples (28.60%). categorized as IVB (irrational there is a less toxic antibiotic), 2 samples (3.60%) are included in the IVC category (irrational there is a cheaper antibiotic), and 1 sample (1.80%) is categorized as IVD (irrational more specific antibiotics)
