Abstract

Aluminum is a lightweight metal that has good corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity. The process of forming aluminum can be done in various ways, one of which is by using the casting method.The casting process is the process of making an object by melting the metal and pouring it into the mold cavity and allowed to freeze. This study aims to determine the hardness of the castings, the morphological structure of the material, a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) test is carried out, then Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDX) is used to determine the elements contained in the sample. From the SEM test results, it can be seen that the morphological structures of the most dominant elements are Al and Si. In the SEM test results, 150ºC cast aging objects show that the grain shape is smaller than raw material cast objects. From this it can be concluded according to the hardness value that the higher the hardness value of an object, the smaller the grain shape and the harder the material is and from the results of testing chemical compounds (EDX), 7% bentonite cast objects have 6 elements, namely Al (70.11%) , C (8.95%), Si (18.96), Fe (0.32%), Cu (0.51%), Mg (1.15%) and Aging 150ºC there are 7 elements, namely Al (76, 49%), C (10.94%), Si (6.99%), Fe (0.49), Ni (0.35), Cu (4.22%), Zn (0.51%). Of the 8 elements with the highest percentage is Al (Aluminum), which is at Aging 150 ° C at 76.49% while 7% bentonite is 70.11%. The results of the Rockwell hardness test were 7% bentonite hardness, the average hardness value on the surface was 61.1 HRB, while the Aging 150 ° C hardness value was 69.11 HRB, it can be concluded that Artificial Aging can increase the hardness of cast objects.
