Abstract
In Indonesia, drug abuse has increased every year. Regardless of male or female, they can easily fall for it. Drug abuse is used more by groups of workers (70%), than groups who do not work (30%). The city of Surakarta ranks the second largest drug case in Central Java, based on data from the Head of the Solo City BNN. Rehabilitation of drug addicts is a form of social protection that integrates drug addicts into a social order so that they no longer abuse drugs. Counselors in Drug Rehabilitation are not like ordinary counselors, they have a role in curing drug addict patients, which is commonly called therapeutic communication. This study used a qualitative method with a qualitative descriptive approach, data collection was carried out by field surveys, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The informant is a counselor from the Cahaya Kusuma Bangsa Surakarta Foundation who handles 3-5 clients with snowball sampling. The results of this study indicate that therapeutic communication between counselors and clients of Cahaya Kusuma Bangsa Surakarta has 4 phases in conducting counseling, namely pre-interaction (building rapport), orientation (counseling note), work, and termination. These phases are carried out in accordance with the stages of counseling but with a different process for each stage. Then the counselor has his own strategy in dealing with clients, namely the Twelve Core Function.
