Abstract

The characteristics of educational leadership are an important part of education delivery. This will be a reflection of the quality of education in schools. Principals who have a good leadership style will be this as a strategy for improving school quality. Therefore, this research was conducted in order to describe the implementation of the principal’s transformasional leadership as a school quality. The reasercher took place at SMK Mutiara 3 Mayong Jepara, as one of schools that is trying to revitalize the school in acrordance with the mandate of presidential instruction no. 9 th 20016 regarding the revitalization of SMK. This type of research is caracteristized by qualitative reaserch who review field data. In the from of relevant document, results of interviews, articles and field observations. After the data has been collected, it is analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach, namely: tabulation and data clarification, reduction and interpretation. Specifically looking for correlations, coherence and relevance of the data obtained. So that thry get conclusing in accordance with the objectives of the reaserch. This research shows that the characteristics of the principals transformasional leadership as a quality improvement strategy in SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Mayong Jepara, can be framed into several categories. The category of transformasional leadership characteristic from this prespective of three stages, includes: (1) Principal as agents of change, (2) principal a brave individual, (3) The Principal believes in the teacher, (4) the principal as the drawer of value, (5) principal as life long learners, (5) principal is able to deal with complexity, ambiguity, amd uncertainty, (7) visioner principal. While the barriers that are illustrated from the transformational leadership process are focused on 3 phased of individual individual change. Individual change from the phase ends the transition and starts a new stage, contro categories of individual behavior will become obstacle, bot interms of followers (teacher and employees) and situational characteristics.
