Abstract

Background: When breaking a wound on the surface of the body, then the body will experience bleeding. The use of gelatin sponge moistened applied to stop bleeding can be supplemented with herbal solutions. If the gelatin sponge is increased more by adding other chemicals, it is feared that it will have toxic effects, so it can be improved by adding traditional ingredients that have hemostatica therapeutic benefits, namely pomegranate seeds (Punica granatum L.). Pomegranate seeds with 40% ethanol extract preparations which have several active compounds that play a role in the process of hemostatics, namely flavonoids and tannins. The addition of 40% pomegranate seed ethanol extract to the gelatin sponge is expected to be able to optimize the work of the gelatin sponge through chemical and pharmacological processes.Purpose of the study: To examine the effect of addition ethanol extract of pomegranate seeds (Punicagranatum L.) 40% in sponge gelatin against bleeding time in rat wounds (Rattusnorvegicus) Wistar strains. Method: This type of research is a true laboratory experimental research using post-test only control group design. The method used is to record the bleeding time in the wound using 32 rats divided into 2 groups: the training group and the control group. The rat's back was wounded using a puch biopsy with a diameter of 5 mm, then the wound was given gelatine sponge without the addition of 40% red pomegranate extract ethanol concentration in the control group and gelatine sponge added ethanol extract of red pomegranate seed concentration 40% in the treatment group. Results: The mean value of bleeding time in the control group used gelatine sponge that was 105.56 seconds, the mean value of bleeding time in the treatment group giving gelatine sponge which had been added with ethanol extract of pomegranate seeds 40% in the amount of 81.07 seconds.Based on the independent t-test, the significance value was less than 0.05 (p <0.05), related to differences between the training and control groups in accelerating the bleeding process in rat wounds. Conclusion: adding 40% pomegranate seed extract (Punicagranatum L.) to gelatin sponge has an influence on bleeding time in Wistar Strain rat wounds.
