Abstract

The construction of the Semarang-Solo Toll Road is an important step in reducing congestion, one of which. This development has an impact on the socio-economic changes of the residents of Kauman Kidul Village, Sidorejo District, Salatiga City. Socio-economic changes in the population affect vertical social mobility around the toll road area development. The purpose of this study was to determine the socio￾economic characteristics and vertical mobility of the residents affected by the Semarang-Solo toll road. The research used in-depth interview method which was conducted in Kauman Kidul Village with a population of 15 informants. Selection of informants using the Non Probability Sampling technique with the Snowball Sampling technique, and considering informants who have experienced compensation due to toll road construction and data analysis used is in the form of qualitative descriptive analysis and ecological analysis. The results showed that the age characteristics of the informants were not very influential in making changes both in terms of employment and economy, while the majority of informants in this study were female. The higher the level of education taken by the informants, the more they get a better job. The types of work of the informants in this study varied from bonded and unbound workers. Social mobility in terms of work has experienced an increase in changes of 6.66%, from employees, factory workers and construction workers, to traders, farmers, and entrepreneurs. Then in terms of income, 6 informants experienced an increase in income reaching 100%, and there were 3 informants who experienced a decrease in income from the previous one. Judging from the change in residence, the conditions have changed both the location and changes in the conditions of the house which are getting better. The addition of property such as owning a vehicle or personal property, and in terms of changes in environmental conditions, there is a reduction in the area of rainwater infiltration in the fields and the residential environment and the reduced amount of productivity produced. The condition of the area which was once very comfortable, cool, and peaceful has now turned into a crowded, noisy, hot environment.
