Abstract

Urbanization and the rapid rate of population growth can affect the development of settlements in urban areas while the amount of strategic land is increasingly limited. Residents who cannot afford to buy land will make compaction in building houses without paying attention to the quality of the environment, making the condition of the surrounding environment slum. The problem of slums is still a major problem faced in Purworejo Regency. Slums in Purworejo Regency are found in 11 Village in Purworejo District and Kutoarjo District. Kutoarjo Village is a slum area with the most extensive slum area and the level of heavy slums in Purworejo Regency. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of slum residents in Purworejo Regency and analyze the factors that influence the immobility of slum residents in Purworejo Regency. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis and regression analysis. Descriptive analysis is an analysis of describing characteristic data of slum dwellers. This regression analysis is used to determine whether there is an influence of independent variables such as location ties, social ties, family ties, and work ties with the dependent variable that is the decision to stay. The results of this study indicate that the population of slum areas of Kutoarjo Village 42% of respondents are residents who come from outside the Kutoarjo Village and 58% of respondents are native residents with the longest resident dominated by 20-29 years as much as 35% of respondents. The most final education is high school/equivalent, 33% of respondents. Most work is dominated by entrepreneurs, namely 40% of respondents and their income is around Rp 1.000.000 – 1.850.000 for 77% of respondents. Based on the results of the cross table between the characteristics of the population and the desire to live, it is found that most of the population has the desire to stay in the slum area of Kutoarjo Village. The variables that have a significant influence on the desire to stay in the slum area of Kutoarjo Village are the Family Ties and the Work ties. Family Ties affect the Desire to Stay by 32.1% with a significance of 0.000 and Work Ties affect the Desire to Stay by 21.9% with a significance of 0.000.
