Abstract

Making paving blocks is one of the efforts made to reduce flooding in areas that lack water absorption. Paving blocks are widely used for parking areas, home yards, parks, sidewalks and road pavements. Paving blocks made of cement, water, fine aggregate in the form of sand and other added materials have good rainwater absorption, easy installation and maintenance. The making of paving blocks in this study uses a moment pressure device added with a collision. The variations in the load given for the compaction of paving blocks are 500 kg and 5 times collisions, 500 kg and 10 times collisions, 600 kg and 5 times collisions, 600 kg and 10 times collisions. The composition of sand and cement used is 1: 5 with 5% added silica fume. 32 specimens were made with dimensions (20 x 10 x 6) cm2 for compressive strength and 32 specimens for water absorption. The optimum compressive strength test results on normal paving blocks and mixed paving blocks were 9,861 MPa and 10,833 MPa at 600 kg loading and 10 times collisions. While the results of the lowest water absorption percentage in normal paving blocks are 11.180% and mixed paving blocks are 8.206% at 600 kg loading and 10 times collisions.
