Abstract

This research aims to examine the intention and implicature of the responses given by social media users toward the coronavirus phenomenon. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data of this research are the utterances that contain the response by social media users. The data source of this research is from Facebook. The data collection technique uses observation and documentation. The Technique of analyzing data is categorizing the intention of the responses given by social media users toward the coronavirus phenomenon by using the theory of Kreidler (2013); categorizing the implicature of the responses theory of Grice (1975). The results of this research are: First, there are 15 kinds of intentions from 84 data of responses by social media users with stating as the most dominant type of intention (30%). Second, there are 3 types of implicature from 84 data of the responses by social media users. In addition, particularized Implicature is the most dominant type of implicature (70%).
