Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of describing the errors made by students in terms of the level of mathematical connection in solving Basic Mathematics problems based on Newman's error theory and what are the causes of these errors. This research is a descriptive qualitative research conducted on 29 students of Mathematics Education class 1E and taking 6 students as research subjects. The data collection techniques used were tests and interviews. The validity of the data used technical triangulation. Data analysis techniques used data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that students with a high level of mathematical connection make reading errors, understanding errors, transformation errors and processing skills errors because they are not careful. Students with a mathematical connection level are making reading errors, understanding errors, transformation errors and writing errors in the final answer because they do not master the material. Meanwhile, students with a low level of mathematical connection made all the mistakes, namely reading errors, understanding errors, transformation errors, processing skills errors, final answer writing errors, because they did not master the material.
