Abstract

Fazlur Rahman argued that one of the Muslim education poblem is a problem in the educational method. Islamic education always uses the rote method, which cannot provide opportunities for students to think critically and creatively. (Sutrisno 2002: 21-31). Often encountered a teacher who is knowledgeable but unsuccessful in teaching, simply because he does not master the teaching method. That is why the teaching method is an important object of discussion in education. (Team of the Director General of PAI Development in Public Schools 2001: 20). So PAIKEM learning is needed to train students to think critically and creatively and to be able to be independent and progress. From the background of the above problems, this research will answer some of the problem formulations above, namely: (1) How is the application of the PAIKEM learning method in student independent learning at MTs Ponpes Imam Bukhari Surakarta? (2) What are the inhibiting factors in the application of the PAIKEM method at MTs Ponpes Imam Bukhari Surakarta? This type of research is field research with qualitative methods, namely: research whose procedures produce descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from the people and actors being observed (Robert and Steven J. quoted by Lexi Moeiloeng, L, J. 1995 : 63). The results of this study are that the application of the PAIKEM method in Arabic language learning at Islamic Boarding School Imam Bukhari Surakarta has run quite well, this is evidenced by the use of PAIKEM strategies in Islamic learning, such as team quizzes, active reading (qira'ah) and mim-mem (imitate-memorize). Even so, several obstacles were still found including the diversity of students, with the diversity of students, the teacher / ustadz had difficulty in providing explanations about the subject matter, the lack of adequate educational media because the existing media was often contested.
