Abstract

Water hyacinth is a disturbing plant in the waters because of its very fast growth. However, water hyacinth can increase plant growth because it contains growth regulators such as IAA (Indole Acetic Acid). This study aims to determine the effect of the extract from the water hyacinth bulb on the growth of curly red chili seeds. The method used in this study is an experimental method with a factorial RAL consisting of two factors. Factor I: Type of immersion solution (P): water hyacinth bulb extract (P1) and control / ringer (P2) factor II: Soaking time (L): immersion 30 minutes (L1), immersion 45 minutes (L2) and soaking 60 minutes (L3). The surface of the bulb is sterilized and then smoothed by adding a 1: 1 ringer solution. Furthermore, the water hyacinth bulb extract is used to soak the chili seeds according to the treatment. The research parameters were germination percentage, plant height, number of leaves, number of roots and root length. The results showed that the germination percentage in all treatments was 100%. The average number of extract treatments in each parameter showed higher results 2 than the control treatment. The 60 minutes extract treatment had the best average parameter results, while in the control treatment the best average yield was control 45 for plant height, number of leaves and number, but at root length the best result was control 60 minutes. The water hyacinth bulb extract had no effect on the growth parameters of curly red chilies.
