Abstract

The transformer has an important role in the operation of the electric power system by delivering electricity. The power transformer has a function that is to supply electric power from high voltage to low voltage and vice versa. Factors affecting the life of the transformer and its quality are heat arising from maximum loading and ambient temperature which causes the temperature of the hot-spot on the power transformer to increase. This study was conducted to determine the effect of temperature on the transformer age arising from loading and ambient temperature using a comparison of actual ambient temperature, IEC standard temperature of 20°C and IEEE standard of 30°C. The calculation method to get the estimated life results of a transformer sequentially is to determine the apparent power, loading ratio, copper loss, transformer loss ratio, temperature rise in ultimate top oil, rise in top oil temperature, difference in oil temperature rise with coil, increase in hot spot temperature with natural or forced oil circulation, the difference between the temperature of the hot spot with the top oil, the temperature of the hot spot, the rate of thermal aging, the shrinkage of the life of the transformer and the estimated remaining life of the transformer. The results of the remaining life of the transformer in the Wonogiri Hydroelectric Power Plant are in accordance with the calculation of 8.3 more years from 2018, because the data obtained are 2018 data with a load of 76.9% - 78.5% which has a transformer life loss of 48.25% and the temperature used is the temperature of the environment around Wonogiri. Based on the analysis, the quality of the transformer in the Wonogiri hydropower is relatively good and safe to operate because the temperature of the transformer hot spot is below the maximum limit set by IEC76 publication in 1994 which is 140°C while the temperature of the transformer hot spot in the Wonogiri hydropower is 97°C at the highest 13.00 WIB with ambient temperature around 32°C.
