Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between self-control and narcissistic in college student who is using instagram. The hypothesis is that there is a negative relationship between self-control and narcissistic behavior. The higher the self-control, the lower the narcissistic behavior. Vice versa, the lower the self-control, the higher the narcissistic behavior. The population in this study were students of the Department of Psychology, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, totaling 1122 with a sample of 130 students. The sampling technique used was random sampling technique. The method used is quantitative with a measuring instrument in the form of Self Control Scale and Narcissistic Scale. Data analysis was performed using product moment correlation techniques using assistive programs SPSS 17.0 for windows. Based on data analysis between self-control variables and narcissistic, the correlation coefficient values are obtained (rxy) of -0,384 and (p) of 0,000 (p < 0,01). This means that there is a very significant negative relationship between self-control variables and narcissistic in college student who is using instagram. Self-control variables affect narcissistic variables by 14.8% and then the remaining 85.2% are influenced by other variables.
