Abstract

Propoelix is a water-soluble propolis extract. Bioactive compund of Propoelix, CAPE acts as an antioxidant potentially inhibits oxidative stress in dyslipidemia. Dyslipidemia is one of the determining factor on cardiovascular disease i.e aterosclerosis. Atherogenix Index is one of many parameter that can predict cardiovascular disease. CAPE in Propoelix has been proven in decreasing TNF-a which contributes in further production of free radicals and triglycerides. Therefore, the objective of this research is to determine the effect of Propoelix to Atherogenix Index on dislypidemic rats. A true experimental design study with pre-post test control group conducted to male wistar albino rats. The number of sample used in this study is 28 rats which divided into 4 groups, as follows: Group 1 ( Positive control group/non dyslipidemic rats, fed with standart feed and induced with aquadest), Group 2 (Negative control group/dyslipidemic rats, fed with hypercolesterol diet and induced with aquadest), Group 3 (Dyslipidemic rats and Propoelix induced at dosage of 0,0216 g/200 g/BW/day for 20 days), Group 4 (Dyslipidemic rats and Propoelix induced at dosage of 0,0432 g/200 g/BW/day for 20 days). Triglycerides level is measured with GPO-PAP methode while HDL level measured with CHOD-PAP. Atherogenix Index is calculated from formula log[Triglycerides/HDL]. Data analysis performed using Kruskal Wallace test and further analysis performed using Mann-Whitney test. Study result finds elevated Triglyceride level and decreased HDL level. After Propoelix administration at dosage of 0,0216 g/200 g/BW/day and 0,0432 g/200 g/BW/day significantly lowered Triglyceride level, increase HDL level, and also decrease Atherogenix Index. Further analysis result finds that Propoelix administration at dosage of 0,0432 g/200 g/BW/day shows higher effectifity on lowering Atherogenic Index rather than dosage of 0,0216 g/200 g/BW/day.
