Abstract

Dry coconut frond fiber is waste from coconut plantations which will usually become trash when harvesting it. Therefore, to utilize the coconut waste can be used as an alternative to the added material of making concrete by taking the fiber. This research by using dry frond fiber aims to find out whether dried frond fiber can increase the flexural strength of concrete. This research method uses a laboratory test approach. The material used in this study is based on fine aggregate test, coarse aggregate test, aggregate gradation test, cement test, and concrete flexural strength test. The materials used in this study are fine aggregate (sand), coarse aggregate (broken stone), cement, water, and fly ash. Coconut fiber fiber added ingredients as much as 3% of the weight of cement and along 0.75 cm, 1.00 cm and 1.25 cm. While the fly ash content is 12.718%, 13.219%, and 13.719% of the weight of cement. The value of the whole test of cement mixture material is reviewed from the Indonesian National Standard, the mixture in all tests meets the requirements. From the flexural strength test results on normal concrete the highest flexural strength value is 8.45 MPa, for concrete with fly ash content the highest value obtained in fly ash 3 is 6.388 MPa at 14 days concrete age.
