Abstract

Skills or the ability to speak in public is very important for someone because it will be useful to improve public speaking and develop soft skills possessed, but not everyone has this skill, if someone does not have these skills then when speaking in front of the crowd will have difficulty and can cause public speaking anxiety. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a relationship between self-efficacy and positive thinking with public speaking anxiety. The population in this study were students of the Faculty of Psychology UMS class of 2019 with a sample of 84 students. Determination of the sample using random sampling techniques. The method in this study uses a quantitative approach, with public speaking anxiety as the dependent variable (Y) and self-efficacy (X1) and positive thinking (X2) as the independent variable. Data collection in this study is that the subjects filled out the public speaking anxiety anxiety questionnaire with reliability α = 0.879, self-efficacy scale α = 0.946 and positive thinking scale α = 0.940. Data analysis techniques using multiple regression analysis that has met the tests of normality and linearity. The results of the analysis for minor hypotheses are seen from the Pearson correlation value (r) for public speaking anxiety and self-efficacy are (r) = -0,635 and Sig (1-tailed) <0.001 which shows a very significant negative relationship and the results of the correlation between variable anxiety public speaking and positive thinking are (r) = -0.741 and Sig (1-tailed) <0.001 which indicates a very significant negative relationship. The major hypothesis can be seen from the ANOVA table that is F 50.238 with a df value of 81 and Sig <0.001 which shows a very significant relationship, it can be concluded that the proposed hypothesis is accepted. The effective contribution of self-efficacy variables and positive thinking in influencing public speaking anxiety can be seen from the R Square section summary table model in this study the results are 55.4% with self-efficacy details of 7.6% and positive thinking variables of 47.8 % then the remaining 44.6% is influenced by other variables.
